A backplate is a high resolution 2D image into which 3D data can be integrated, usually a car. Backplates are supplied with High Dynamic Range Images (HDRIs) or "domes" that provide matching lighting and reflection data. Automotive backplates are supplied as 8000px plus 16 bit Tiff files. Matching HDRI rendering domes and VR compatible 360˚ are supplied as HDR Radiance files and either Tiffs of Jpegs at a minimum of 20,000px and typically contain 21 stops of exposure data.
